Steelers Rookie DT Derrick Harmon Doubles Down on Injury Concerns
Pittsburgh Steelers 2025 first-round pick Derrick Harmon denies there's any issues with his shoulder once again.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers 2025 first-round pick Derrick Harmon reportedly fell down draft boards due to injury concerns surrounding his shoulder. The rookie defensive tackle denied those once again on Friday at rookie minicamp.
“Nothing’s wrong with my shoulder,” Harmon said. “I’m 100 percent healthy, ready to go.”
Harmon’s MRI at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine is what initially sparked those concerns as it showed a partially torn rotator cuff and a torn labrum. However, general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin dismissed any worries regarding the issue after selecting him on Day 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft.
“We wouldn’t have picked him unless our medical staff was comfortable with it,” Khan said.
Harmon reiterated a similar sentiment while speaking with media over the phone, too.
“I don’t know man, I’m fully healthy ready to go,” he said. “I don’t have no concerns. I’m ready to get to work.”
In his three seasons of college football, Harmon did not miss a single game due to injury. He played 38 games.

In fact, many believe Harmon would have been a top 10 pick if it weren’t for his “medical concerns.”
Harmon is just using that to fuel his fire, though, and help prove the Steelers right for taking a chance on him.
“Thank you to Mr. [Art] Rooney, coach [Mike] T., Omar [Khan] for picking me,” Harmon said. “I’m just ready to prove those three guys right and get to work in Pittsburgh.”
In 2024, Harmon recorded 45 tackles, five sacks and a pair of forced and recovered fumbles at Orgeon.
